Most standard motorhomes can be driven with a Category B driving licence, which is the type of licence most people have. This covers motorhomes that weigh up to 3,500kg, which includes the majority of motorhomes. However, if you want to drive a larger motorhome that weighs between 3,500kg to 7,500kg, you will need to get an additional licence entitlement called C1. So, if you’re planning on driving a larger camper, you’ll need to check that you have the correct licence before you hit the road.

If you’re planning on parking and sleeping in a campervan somewhere in the UK, it’s important to be aware of the laws and regulations around this. Firstly, it’s worth noting that land in the UK is typically privately owned, so if you want to park your campervan somewhere other than a designated caravan or motorhome park, you’ll need to get permission from the landowner. This is particularly important if you’re planning on ‘wild camping’ in a more remote location. It’s also worth bearing in mind that there is no legal right to park beside the road, although there are no specific laws that prohibit it aside from the Highways Act 1980 and the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act. Public car parks are generally regulated by Traffic Regulation Orders, which can vary across different parts of the UK. Therefore, it’s important to do your research and ensure you’re parked in a safe and legal location before settling down for the night in your campervan.
